Excerpt
I’m a huge proponent of making excellent connections and sometimes this means adopting a slightly different perspective. If you are in a business that relies on clients for the bulk of your income stream, then making those connections and keeping them is critical to your success. Treat people with respect, exceed expectations, love what you do and a one-time connection may well become a lifelong client. – David Aiken

These articles are exclusive to this PDF publication and cannot be found anywhere else! It’s a great resource to add to your business library! Plus, it kicks the pants off those crazy expensive industry mags that are full of garbage ads and have absolutely nothing to offer with respect to growing or managing your creative endeavor.

*No trees were harmed in the publishing of this digital product.

CROWD CONTROL takes an in-depth look at generating demand and eliciting curiosity in your creative work. Corwin uses examples from his management consulting business, and personal projects like CREATIVEMIX, to illustrate how you can promote your creative endevour and grow your business by engaging with people instead of pushing a sales agenda.

The content is divided into three sections: Drawing a Crowd (changing ones’ marketing paradigm from tasks to people), Making Connections (turning contacts into leads, making the most of your networking opportunities, and spreading the word without selling your soul), and finally Making an Experience (insights on how hosting an inspired event, of any size or budget, can grow your network).

Buy it Now!

Crowd Control by Corwin Hiebert is available for just $5.

This 62-page eBook (nearly 14,000 words) is packed with insights, ideas, and best practices that are connected together by a simple question: Do you want to stand out from the crowd or do you want to attract a crowd?

Excerpt

Creatives have been getting new work for many reasons; talent, quality and marketing are only part of the answer to the riddle. More than anything demand comes through relationships and being a capable problem solver. We gain the opportunity to offer our creative solutions only once we’ve built a meaningful connection with those close to the problem. Companies and clients are not hiring you for your services as much as they are putting their trust in you to help them successfully produce a creative solution. In other words, unless your endgame is to build trust and solve problems then you’re just like everyone else in the crowd; making noise about yourself but not actually saying anything of value.

Relationships with other humans make for experiences. We make decisions based on past experiences; good experiences make for favourable action.

Today marks an important day for us, we’re (re)launching clamorate.com. Here’s the scoop:

In July 2011 we let loose to the Web a really good idea, but then life, work and unanswered emails happened. Our bad. On top of prematurely flipping the switch, we also found out the hard way that subject matter experts are a lot harder to corral than originally thought. So, we hit the reset button and here we are again.

Clamorate.com now looks like this:

Memberships. Our annual membership is now just $79 and we do not offer a monthly option. Things change. In this case, for the cheaper Don’t be shy, learn more.

Business Planning Session. This is new! We want to help you with your specific business and marketing issues and provide you with the guidance and support you need to move your creative small business forward. This 1-hour private Skype call with Corwin Hiebert or Dave Seeram is preceded by a short survey and a customized follow-up action plan is sent to you after the meeting. Need a business plan? Want to brainstorm your next steps? Want help with those business questions that keep you up at night? Whatever you’re dealing with we’re here to help. Sign-up today! Sessions are $99 (free for members).

Magazines. They’re packed with good stuff! The feedback has been great and they’re our anchor offering. Our magazines have proven themselves as an excellent platform for topnotch content and we’re dedicated to publishing 8 magazines per year. Volume 3 is set to launch very very soon – take a look! Each issue is just $5 (new volumes are free for members and they get back issues for $3).

eBooks. They are a big deal (and bloody hard to make happen) – but we’re pushing through, besides, it’s self-inflicted. We’ll publish 4 eBooks per year – and they’ll be worth the wait. They’re comprehensive and they explain in detail the principles, practices, and action steps that small business owners need to thrive. The next ebook is titled “Crowd Control: Growing Your Small Business One Humanoid at a Time” by Corwin Hiebert and it is tentatively scheduled to be published January 25, 2012. Each eBook is $5 (new ebooks are free for members and they get back issues for $3).

Webinars. They rock! And we’re opening them up to the public. The topics we tackle are important and we want to make sure we’re helping as many people as possible. The new schedule is up – check it out. Each webinar is just $5 to attend (free for members and the Think+Drink Session is members-only).

Podcasts. No change, cuz’ they’re awesome! The library has 4 so far – listen or download at your convenience. We’ve got a new podcast ready to go – it will be published on Monday, January 23, 2012 (iTunes feed coming up).

Blog Posts. Along with our ever-growing author roster we’re committed to providing great content on the blog once or twice a week. Authors submit posts out of the goodness of their heart, but we pay them for magazine articles and ebooks. Know a pro? Pass this along if you please.

Forum. We’re working on a (re)Do. Stay tuned.

Thanks for reading and for being involved in this growing community of business-driven artists, freelancers, and creative sole-proprietors. All we want to do here is to help you live the dream. Leave a comment or send us an email anytime – we’re here for you.

Kindle Giveaway!

Now to the fun stuff. What (re)launch is worth anything unless there’s something to bribe you with! To get in on the action simply do one of the following: join our newsletter mailing list, purchase an eBook or magazine, sign-up for a business planning session or webinar in the month of January you’ll be entered to win 1 of 2 Amazon Kindles!

When I was in Kenya last year I was awestruck with how difficult it is for a village to educate their children. The issues they face are countless and even the simplest of things can be a massive roadblock – nutrition, safety, and medical support are just the beginning. When I learned of The Kilgoris Project I was impressed by the way they work to support the locals in their efforts to care for and teach the children in their community. I place a lot of value on the fact that foreign aid needs to be owned and managed by the locals and this project is doing just that.

Their Worldreader project really got my attention as I’m an avid Kindle user and considering I’ve seen first-hand how entire classrooms in Kenya share one text book I was fascinated to hear how this project is taking shape. Here’s a news report about it:

I wouldn’t be where I am today without my passion for reading. I wouldn’t have had the insights or understood the complex issues at hand with respect to starting my business without having access to a wide array of books. Though I’ve never been a fast reader I spent my entire childhood riveted by stories and facts that I read without being told to read. I read for fun! When I read, I’m entertained. When I read, I’m challenged. When we read we change our course in life – it impacts our spirit, it inspires us to be creative and adventurous. The skill of literacy fades away when we don’t give the gift of the written word. I hope you’re as inspired as I am.

Episode 4 of the clamorate! podcast series is here and oh man are you in for a ride my friends! This episode is an interview with a friend and colleague of mine who has been independent businessman and a creative instigator for over thirty years. His name is David Aiken but to his fans, followers, and clients around the world he’s known at The Checkerboard Guy. He’s a comedic daredevil who delivers the goods – he makes people laugh and he gets paid!

I sat down with him at his home office in North Vancouver to talk about his life as an entrepreneur, the ins-and-outs of his business, creativity, collaboration, as well as some stories from the front lines. His experience and expertise in the entertainment business and his success as a self-marketer makes for some really interesting discussion. Learn more about David Aiken on his website www.checkerhead.com.
